CBS Sports analyst and former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe has decided to "step aside" from his broadcasting duties in light of unsettling allegations leveled against him, SportsByBrooks reports. According to legal documents obtained by Brooks, Sharpe's accuser claims through her attorney that the legendary tight end "forced [her] to have sex with him," "threatens her life" and "places her under surveillance and calls to say he is watching her."
The petition for a restraining order was discovered on Friday, but Sharpe still appeared on TV two days later as part of CBS's Week 1 NFL coverage.
Sharpe joined CBS in 2004 after finishing his 13-year NFL career. At the time of his retirement, Sharpe held the all-time record for career receiving yards for a tight end. Since joining the network, he has played a central role in CBS's NFL coverage.
